pwm vs pfm mode

i'm a newer in this part, i want to know how to change between these two mode in dc-dc converter?

can somebody give me some advices, or some reference or papers or links??

thanks.

this is my opion, if it wrong, please criticize.

PWM can get high efficiency when it works under heavy load condition, but at light load is poor, and PFM has the opposite function, so if put the two together, can get a good converter.

my question is how to change them at different condition.

thanks.

You change from one to the other by monitoring your circuits load demand and switching based on whatever specific conditions you choose.

My suggestion to you would be to use an integrated circuit from someone such as TI that already has these functions built in so you dont have to worry about it.
