hello there,

certainly, purpose sram is clear and how it works is clear too.

what about dual port ram ?
what does exactly mean dual port in technical context ?

i have tried to understand via google search but still not very clear.

in what situation cat it be beneficial ?

regards.

Hi,
Normal RAM has only one set of Address Bus and one set of Data Bus, so that only one processor can access it at a time. Dual ported RAM has got two sets of address and data buses and two sets RD/WR signals, so that it allows two devices to use it as a commoon storage area. Such requirements arise in cases of dual processor systems as in the case of CPU and a Display processor sharing a common memory. The internal design of the dual ported RAM allows simultaneous RD/WR from two devices to take place, even though for simultaneaous write, the software has to check if the RAM is currently under use before writing. Availability of Dual ported RAM saves a lot of time otherwise being wasted in interprocessor transmission of data.
