basics of vlsi design by neil waste

i am fine in FPGA but i wanna start in digital ASIC....how can i do so and what

concept does is it build upon???

thanks

Salma:D

for the basic concepts u can check Rabaey's book for digital ICs

Rabey is a nice book 2 start
principle of cmos vlsi design by weste is also a gud book 2 start

same query asked previously
check the eda board for more answers

Both are the right to start,
what i feel and i did is to start with "Asic Design" by SMITH .D because this book will you fully (full concepts) which other book can't.

for the basic concepts, then u can wrie your circuit using verilog or vhdl!!

thnx alot guys,

what about the tools i can use?
and how much time do i need to become familiar with them and with the basic concepts in general???

thnx again
Salma

if you concentrate on only the language aspect of it, say verilog or vhdl, u can get a lot of free tools which will simulate your designs.

for verilog, there is a free tool called Icarus.

for vhdl, i prefer to use bluehdl, which is also free. i'm sure there are more tools.

but, before that, be very sure that you are thorough with basic digital concepts.

so start with ASIC
basically u need to go with verilog language
as far as reference book is concern cmos vlsi design by neil waste and harris
and another is uyemmera.
and for verilog stuff there are lots of free online tutorial is available.

Hi,
this book is online - **broken link removed** - it gives a holistic view and is quiet good - then u need to decide which part you want to work on - if you want to work in backend you can try a GNU tool Archimedes or Microwind's student edition - both available for free -

EDA tool: DC FPGA.

DC FPGA is a tool that utilize the core of DC and focus on the FPGA library.

this tool is to help user who want to migrate their design from fpga to asic later, without alter the constraint.

If you are very familiar with FPGA design , i think it is easy to start ASIC design .
first you must know the ASIC design flow .
write CODE ->functional simulation ->synthesis ->timing analysis ->post synthesis simulation -> layout -> post simulation.
then you should be famaliar with some eda tools
Cadence : ncverilog or verilog -xl , apollo etc
synopysys : DC, primetime , tmax ,maybe need power compiler. etc.

hi u can study ASIC system design from chapter 8 of Rabaey's book and also read manual of ASIC system design by RAbaey which is on "rapidshire"

hi....u can start with VHDL by Douglas Perry , Its a nice book on VHDL and also covers basic ASIC flow.

there is a QuartusII from Altera.
It is EDA tool, U know.
U need to study verilog or VHDL.
There are many books, but the easiest way is web search.
It's very helpful for me.

Have a good study..
bye~
