Comparison between Tektronix & Agilent oscilloscope

I am in need of a good mixed signal oscilloscope. Now I'm looking for two models from Tektronix (MDO3014) & Agilent (MXOS2004A). My required specifications are...
1. 4 channel oscilloscope with 70Mhz or 100Mhz bandwidth. The bandwidth can be upgrade later.
2. Logic analyzer.
3. Built-in function generator.
The above two models are OK for me, both are fully upgradable & has its own advantages & disadvantages. Now I'm in confusion, which one i have to select?

Compare to specification Tektronix is good, but little expensive. In a comparison video Agilent has Protocol analyzer decoding facility in hardware, where as the Tektronix do the function in software which reduces the update rate. Apart from this...:shock:.... I'm confused with technical specification also...

If anyone has experience with Tektronix & Agilent oscilloscope, Please suggest me the best instrument from the above mentioned model.

They are both good kit.

I would probably go for the Agilent because of the experience of using Agilent's quite slick collect and return fixed price calibration service for several types of instruments like data-logger and spectrum analyzer.

Tektronix support may also be good, so you might seek more opinion from others who might be checking out this thread.

I know it is a bit lame to be swayed only by after sales support, but for most other features, they are both such very good equipment that the advantage for either is not so clear. You may like the DSP decoding advantage in the Agilent, but that may not count for much if you hardly ever use it.

Usually, if the specifications are closely competitive, and the reliability reputations are similar, then the lower price decides it.

Tek support is very good. I have used equipment from both companies and recently had to choose a new 'scope, I decided on Tektronix although there is little technically between their 'equivalent' models. The Tek was cheaper in the UK but prices may vary in different countries.

Looking over the specs, the Agilent has much better glitch capture 500ps in all modes vs the 7ns of the Tek. The Tek seems to have a higher sample rate and a much larger record length of 10Mpts vs 50kpts per channel. Most of the rest of the specs seem pretty comparable. And the Tek model you referred to is a 100 MHz 4 channel and the Agilent is a 70 MHz 4 channel, So the Tek has higher bandwidth out of the box.

comparing the technical specification of the two DSO, Tektronix is the most featured instrument (Look at the comparison chart in the attachment). When compare with the agilent, Tektronix is almost 200% expensive. The Agilent (MSOX2004A) cost around $3995, but Tektronix is $8353
Tektronix not worth for the double price even if the specs are good, but the difference is not much. Tektronix comes with built-in spectrum analyzer, which can't be removed from the package. Tektronix with spectrum analyzer (if you want this feature)...:lol:... price is very cheaper...

Dang wish I had ~$2600 to drop on the MSO3012 at 500Mhz bandwidth that's better than most of the scopes that I used at my last job. Most of them were 350MHz-450MHz. Still one left!
