IR2110 not working

Yes, I used R1 and R2 22ohm.
 

The heating is due to stray inductances in the AC path, in the DC path, as well as the stray inductance in the gate drive loop. Parallel tracks on the PC board are to be used. as mentioned in the application note of IR2110 inthe following link

I've checked the circuit and seems everything fine and as per the circuit diagram given in earlier posts.

Is there any good substitute of this driver?

Yes, the pulses from MCU is as like as the signal (LIN & HIN) shown in the attached diagram. Anything wrong? :???:

ir2110 is not suitable for short circuit operation. So so never connect output(source of hi side ) to ground.i am facing same problem..but try out with some resistive load.it must be work.

I just burn one IR2110 10 minutes before....by short circuiting output of mosfets...hehe....


lets back to topic.i mean dont place short circuit load like small wire in output of your h bridge..(using IR2110) if you have to use load such like short circuit(Single wire) then start from lowest duty cycle then increase your duty cycle slowly.....it will works and not burn IR2110....


I just sucked by IR2110 now i am thinking to try GDT. Less costly and easy to design....I also suggest you to move from IR2110 to GDT....because i can not fell it reliable solution for high power applications...especially inductive......
 

What is GDT? Is it an electronics component? Please give me a link of the device that you want to use in your design.
 

As this driver is not working. I wanted to use BJT to driver high and low side MOSFET. Using BJT to drive MOSFET should be simple. Is there any issue with it?
 

Get means gate driver transformer.....it is very difficult to drive hi side MOSFET using BJT don't try it....don't waste time........ If you even wanna go for ir2110 read thamid's blog or go to GDT ....for high voltage hi current I suggest GDT....... You must struggle to do ur design success

Firstly I would suggest to increase the pull-down resistors from 1 kohm to 10 kohm to reduce bootstrap discharge and consumption.

Which PWM frequency are you using and which is the gate charge of the MOSFETS? It is normal that the gate driver becomes hot when charging and discharging a MOSFET fast! Provably you need a higher current rated IC if PWM frequency and gate charge is high.

Also, did you check the HO and LO outputs with the oscilloscope? If the circuit routing is not optimized and has large parasitic inductances, ringing can be observed at those terminals. If the ringing exceeds the maximum recommended absolute values of IR2110 the IC may become latched-up.

I'll check with 10k pull down resistor.
Currently, I am testing with PWM frequency 5kHz wth duty cycle 30%. But I'll use 50kHz. It becomes hot and after few minutes it is damaged. I've checked both the outputs by connecting Vs ping to ground. Signals waveforms are okay.

I'm using MOSFET IRF3205.

Could you please clarify gate charge of the MOSFETS? Also please mention some driver IC with high current rating.
 

With this MOSFET IRF3205 and the gate driver you are using should be OK.
I would suggest using a resistor in series with the turn-off diodes UF4007. If Vdd is 12 V I would say 6 ohm resistor in series as a first approach, this will limit current to < 2 A and reduce power loses in the driver.
 

I'm using a Schottky diode (1N5819) in parallel with 22ohm gate resistor. My Vdd is 5v and Vcc is 12v. For the test 5kHz pwm signal should it be issue with gate diode of 22ohm? As IR2110 is not working, I wanted to check other good alternative driver (high current for future).

Turn on gate resistance of 22 ohm seems right. However during turn off (gate discharge) the current flows through the schottky diode without resistor limitation. This is why I suggest adding a resistance in series with the diode.

Regarding the higher current driver there are several options, one similar to IR2110 is FAN7392MX, also IRS2186.

It's not plausible that IR2110 driving a pair of IRF3205 overheats at 50 kHz, even without a gate resistor. There's most likely something wrong that can't be seen in the circuit diagram.

Gate resistors and diode circuits may be useful to adjust the switching speed, but aren't necessary for IR2110 safe operation with IRF3205.
