Hi,

Is editing the the layer name in LEF file allowed ? for example can I use 'metal1' instead of 'ME1' ? whether it makes any issue once we go for a tapeout ?
Are these usages specif to the foundries ?

[The IO lef I downloaded from FARADAY uses 'ME*' usage for layers but the CMOS lef I have from UMC uses "metal*' usage ]

Thanks

Hi,

It depends on foundry which gives pdk...

Since the GDS file which is created after Encounter needs to import to Virtuoso layout Editor and some substancial steps to be performed in order to design it for Tapeout..

So, it creates error for you ... because every customer has their own library..

Thanks...

you could change the name as you want.
to generate the GDS, encounter used a map file between the name you want "ME1" or "totoME1", to the layer number used in the GDS, something like this "61:0".
You only need to have the technology LEF file and all std-cell/macros LEF file align to use the same name for the same layer.

Helo,

Can anyone elaborate a bit on the "substantial steps to be performed on virtuoso for tapeout" as mentioned in the first reply , what all are them please ?

Thanks

Hi,

Actually i dont know exactly,, as of my knowledge.. in AMS projects...

two main blocks .. AFE DFE

These DFE is somewhat complex part and which is done using
"verilog coding"-> "gatelevelnetlist" --> By using lef and sdc files this gate level netlist is converted into GDS file... using for example Encounter

Then this GDS is exported to layout virtuoso then combined with the AFE block...

Then this whole AFE +DFE is converted into a GDS...
Which is used for Tapeout..

Thanks,,,
