the inverter acts like a weak buffer. with a reduced noise margin/ output voltage swing.
H= Vdd -Vthn
L= Vss + Vthp
Reasono for this is Body effect .. look it up in google.

its not necessary that u insert buffers right in the middle of the logic cone. this can lead to setup failures faning out from the logic to a different register(in most complex designs this is the case). one option is to add the buffers at the D input of the failing registers or if u have...

the bad side of having assign statments in the netlist.
say for example u have a two ports in1 and out1
and they are connected wihtout any logic in between
assign out1 = in1 ;
the above statment is not accepterd by backend tools like encounter etc...
therefore u need to buffer direct input to...

I suppose if the supplies were interchanged then the capacitor would charge to 4V.
Regardign the first scenario is there a possibility of the gate to source capacitence to play a role in allowing the voltage to go beyond 3V.

In the attached diagram, what is the maximum voltage the capacitor would charge to. The gate is tied to 5V the Drain is connected to 3V the capacitor is connected to the Source of the nmos with Vt=1V.
I was told the capacitor would charge to 4V but...

Hi,
you have to make sure you do not have any "don't touch" attribute on any of the ports. If you have any don't touch attributes then DC/PC will not add buffers and will write out assign statments in the netlist.
make sure you check your netlist and see for which port the assign...
