i want to build a simple robot for my school project, can everyone suggest me where to start first?

i found that Proton ide is easy to learn and make my first micro controller project. but it does not support more pic such as 16f84A.. for lite verson. can everybody suggest what could i do? or i have to download supported file ? does everyone know to make it support...

i decided to use pic and the compiler is micro C because i have just bought a seriel to pic writer which enable me to send code to pic.
