ADC0809 can take the analog input from 0 volts to 5 volts only. Definitely it will not accept negative voltages. DC shifted any waveforms (sine, cos..) will be accepted.

Since you are using a signal with a frequency of 50Hz, to satisfy the Nyquist criteria you have to sample the signal atleast twice of the maximum frequency of the signal. i.e. 50*2=100 samples/sec

I am proposing a simple technique, which I studied in high school days. Use Goniometer which we commonly use to measure height of the buildings and trees. You should know only Pythogorous theorem.

if u use dec2bin(D), where D as a string and it can represent upto 2^52 only. U can't go more than that.

Matlab can represent an integer upto 2^52 in any base format.
