Iam doing this SIM 900 interface with a micro-controller. the problem is that whenvere I read a message from the SIM900 module, it shows everything in hex, not ascci. I tried changing the format with the AT+CMGF=1, but of no use. can anyone suggest what the problem really is?

that depends on your dongle, if the dongle is rated at EIA 232 voltage levels, then it might be an issue, you gotta use some level converters like max 232. else you can directly connect.
'Burning' will be due to a whole lot of things.. be more specific c, did you designed the thing? If you are willing to share the schematic, please do so. Many members can help if you provide with all the details.
