Hi everyone

I want measure the Bit error rate(BER) of an optical link which will transmit 1-50 Mbps PRBS data.

Right now, I find 3 ways to do this.

1, buy a BER tester, like Anritsu ME522A, which is from 70s last century and still cost 2000 euros.

2, use a microcontroller works together with a BERT chip like DS2172.

3 use two CPLDs or FPGA.

So, my question is there any other ways which is easier and cheaper ?
