LinuxCNC is a good project and lot of infomations for someone wanna develope soft-cnc by himself.
To my point of view,you can refer to it but never start from it.If you care about a real-cnc performance,cpp code will lead to to fail for machine control especially in machine tool.
But linuxcnc project had already a lot of successful story,check if applicable then moving the code to you.
