Use of ferrite on cables and pcbs

The correct use of ferrites on connected cables, especially on twisted pair, will dramatically decrease the efficiency of the cables as antennas. How do we chose ferrites, what are the parameters. And which ferrites we normally use on the dc power lines on the pcbs ?
