This question is related to IO standard like TTL.
I understand that originally these standards came into existence due to the inherent nature of the those transistor type.
For example, TTL would have a certain inherent characteristics and similarly CMOS etc.
Since most of the designs happen to be in CMOS type, i have 2 related questions,
1) are IO's like TTL implemented using CMOS transistors but have the same characteristics of TTL
2) since most of the designs happen using CMOS, is it not better to name these IO standards in terms of some generic names instead of tying them to the transistor type?

Regards,

CMOS transistors. Inputs have a.skewed sizing to position threshold similar to true TTL. Outputs may just be basic, with higher than TTL Ioh.
