Hi,
can someone tell me the difference between analog and digital vlsi?
and also what does mixed signal mean?
thnx

"Mixed signal" means a device that combines analog and digital functions, such as analog-to-digital converter and cpu.

Analog and digital?

As far as in view of designer is concerned difference is that digital design is done on block level where u play with flip flops , registers etc. And in analog design u design using mos transistors.
Mixed signal design consists of designs using both analog and digital blocks.

Re: Analog and digital?

analog signal is continuous in both time and amplitude...Analog is usually thought of in an electrical context, however mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other systems may also use analog signals.....Any information may be conveyed by an analog signal, often such a signal is a measured response to changes in physical phenomena, such as sound, light, temperature, position, or pressure, and is achieved using a transducer....

A digital signal is a signal that is discrete in both time and amplitude...it may be the result of conversion of an analog signal....or it may be originally digital if the system is wholly digital...

mixed signals means that they combine both analog and digital signals

Re: Analog and digital?

Analog signal is continuous in time and amplitude.........where is digital signal is discrete in both....for digital VLSI the device is made to operate both in cutoff and saturation for 0 and 1.........in Analog mainly all transistors are made to operate in saturation...for digital above some value all voltage levels are logic 1...but for analog based on operating point gain changes,BW changes..so on..

digital vlsi concerns mainly with logic levels either high or low or high impedance.

but analog vlsi deals with analog signal not only with some levels..

Re: Analog and digital?

Hello
Digital means the signal is discrete at some intervals of time
analog means continuous values at each point in the time interval.

Digital vlsi includes allthe combinational and sequential circuits. like filpflops etc
it deal with designing them
analog means u should design the amplifiere for repective gain, and opamapms etc

Analog and digital?

Analog means the both the independent and dependent both variable are continuous..but in Digital both variable are quantized..
