VGA gain distribution

I have a 3-stage VGA gain, ranging from large to small gain. What are the advantages / disadvantages if I distribute the gain from small to large or from large to small?

Re: VGA gain distribution

Using different gains in a VGA you can obtain different resolutions in programmable gain, can have different performances in noise, and can have different linearity behavior.
For example check any VGA datasheet from ADI, and follow these parameters vs gain.

You can use the standard gain, noise, and linearity consideration procedure.

Noise, Linearity, Resoultion, and Offset.
