state diagram to check whether a serial data (msb first) is divisible by 5

same question ? now u wanna chk MSB ....well can u tell me one thing

in how many bits r u representing integer or whtever? then u cud chk last msb bits ;)

Re: state diagram to check whether a serial data (msb first)

Its a typical digital design interview question.
The catch here is... if the length of the incoming serial stream is not fixed then it is impossible to find whether number is divisible by 5 or not.
It is so because the division operation is always performed for the LSB side of the number; hence if the number is MSB first with unknown width, it is mathematically impossible to ivide it by 5.

Re: state diagram to check whether a serial data (msb first)

i think it will have different state machines according to the number of serial bits...u have to specify it first i guess...
