rs232 to rs422 conversion

hello i have a controller with rs232 interface. i want to interface it with my PC. but i want to keep my PC at the distance of 700m for remote control functioning.

1. So can i use rs422 as converter on the both sides i.e. first to convert rs232 to rs422 and then rs422 to rs232 on the receiver end?

2. if this is possible, how to to it?

3. what max distance i can achieve with this arrangement?

thanks in advance

rs232 to rs422 howto

It's possible and the distance can be up to 1200m ..

Here is an example:

You will need two identical converters at both ends ..

forum conversion rs232 à rs422

Thanks......... do i have to make some changes in software or it will work as it is? can u tell me in a little detail....... actually i m doing it for first time.........

rs422 to rs232 howto

"As it is" you'll have to make sure that DTR line goes "L" and RTS goes "H" ..

However, as most of contemporary computers will accept 0-5V as the RS-232 levels, you can connect pin5 (U2) to 5Vdc and R2 - instead of DTR - connect to GND ..
