rectangular microstrip antenna

how simulate a rectangular microstrip antenna on a finite ground plane?Which software to use?

infinite ground plane

u can use HFSS to do so.it works fine but u know with a finite ground plane your gain would be 3-dB less than what it is supposed to be and the sidelobe levels shoot up.the concept of finite ground plane is when u assign the dimensions of it less than 10*lambda.anything more than that is considered infinite ground plane.

sajid mohammed.

microstrip antenna ground plate

Thanks Mohamed but i dont understand why dimensions of the ground plane must be under 10*lamda?

microstrip antennas rectangular

under 10 lambda would be finite.over 10 lambda the ground plane would be called infinite.
