Opacity and dust monitor

I come to know that there are transmitters available in market which can measure both opacity and dust concentration. How can it measure both. I learned that it is basically works on principle of autocollimination and uses beer lambarts law to find dust concentration. Can anyone explain me how it works in some detail.
