HI all, I am after some ifo from your knowledge pool. I know nothing about aeriels and raio waves etc.. But I have put some electric gates on my house and installed an aeriel similar to this
THe range has not really increased any I was wondering does this type of aeriel need grounding and if so would screwing it to a metal post about 3 feet high that is bedded in concrete suffice:!: any help would be appreciated. THanks in advance[/img]

Yes, any kind of ground will help a vertical antenna.
The ground plane could be a metal case, the body of a vehicle, the metallic roof of a house, or λ/4 radials.
