* Greater density of watts is always being pushed. Example, power converters in ever smaller packages are demanded by the consumer market.
* Rechargeable batteries are being made with increasingly greater capacity. Lithium type is prominent, however they need greater care to prevent overcharging. I've heard that some Li batteries have controller circuits built into them, as a measure to reduce risk of fires and explosions.
