how to select the diode

Dear All

I have SMPS where the ouput current is a triangle with peak 20 A
and a duty cycle 30%

I have a diodes where its datasheet says that its non-repetative peak is 50A and it'smaximum average is 12 A

i wounder if this diode will work with the SMPS

i just ask abt current rating ( i know about switching speed problems and i took it mind)

how to select rating of diode

What is the average forward current in your design?
If it is in range with the selected diode you can use it.
Consider the max reverse voltage.

how to select a diode?

how about topology of smps.
if it is flyback,I think this diode is safty for you application.

how to select a diode

I think we should select a diode with average rating that's larger than the peak current in our application

so if we have a triangle current with peak 20A 30% duty cyle ( average = 3 A ) then we should select a diode with average rating > 20 A

IS THAT TRUE ???????????
