RAS for win98

I have no wnglish win98 se, so some names may be incorrect
but i think it would be simple to guess the right ones

1. Make sure you have Remote Access Server installed
Go to Control Panel--Add and remove programs--Windows components
select "Communications" and press "More.." button
You could see a list of 8 components. One of them is Remote Access Server
If it's unchecked then check it

2. Go to Start--Programs--Accessories--Communications--Remote Network Access
3. Select menu "Connections"--"Remote access server..."

4. Select the corresponding tab (the modem you want others to connect to) and check Radio-button "Enable remote connections"
5. Change settings for your needs and press "Apply" button. The serever state becomes "monitoreing" (or something like this)
The RAS icon must appear in system tray

Re: RAS for win98

hi,

i'm not sure which os you are using but i think that defenately not win98. i know winnt, win2k, winxp have no problem doing ras. not sure about winme. but win98 there is no native software to do ras. i need some 3rd party software.

RAS for win98

Have you tried what i told you?

I have several OSes on my PC. One of them is Windows 98 SE.
Before I post my answer I rebooted to my Win 98 and made all this actions to make sure it's possible ('cause i could not remember right actions to do)

What step is making trouble to you (1,2,3,4,5, all)?

Re: RAS for win98

I definetely may agree what delphistd30 has written! there is a remote access server in W98 SE, and its a standard functionality within windows. But in general, it will not be installed by default, so you have to perform the steps delphistd30 has described.

hi all,

thank for these info. the first is on setting up a dialup to access to remote pc, and the second really cheer me up. however my pc donnot have "Dial-Up Server" the only reason i can think of is that i don't install ms plus!

i will try to get the ms plus! and try.

really thanks to all of you.

RAS for win98

Hi, wisely77. I still don't understand, what's your problem.
I've seen at the picture you attached all the 8 items are selected in Communications section of Windows setup.
It's a:
Dial-Up Networking
Dial-Up Server
Direct Cable Connection
Hyperterminal
Microsoft Chat 2.1
Microsoft NetMeeting
Phone Dialer
Virtual Private Networking
(on your picture there're only 6 items visible, but it's shown that the firs 2 are also checkboxed, 'cause of "8 of 8" items selected)
So you have Dial-Up server installed. Why do you think it's not?

Have you problems to start it via menu Connections --Dial-Up Server?

Re: RAS for win98

hi,

thank. i think i have make a mistake on this
i have setup the dial up server.
thanks guys.
