How to build a basic 4X4 keypad in circuit?

How to build a basic 4X4 keypad in circuit?
Need to use how many component of diode n resistors?
Let me know if anyone can provide me a 4X4 keypad datasheet..

If using AVR no need for excessive resistors or diode, just use one port and connect rows to one nyble and columns to other.
