The question is, what you want exactly to achieve. Electrolytic plating of complete conducting surfaces isn't a problem generally. The difficult task is through-plating and surface structuring. It's not completely impossible in a DIY scale, but implies usage of some unhealthy chemicals like formaldehyde for the reductive metal deposition.
