How big and heavy and £££ is a 10kW 50Hz, 3 phase mains transformer?

Hi,
As per the title, And it needs three phase 40VAC outputs.
How expensive and how large if efficiency is 98%?
10kW total load.

Ive written to transformer co's but none reply.
 

There is no such thing as a '3 phase transformer' at least not until you reach microwave frequencies. What you are really after is three single phase transformers in one enclosure. The primary sides side between the incoming phases and the secondary sides all have one side linked to make the neutral line with the other being the phase out. Look at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta-wye_transformer Perhaps you asked using the wrong requirement.

I doubt you would get 98% efficiency and they are quite big lumps of iron. A pure guess would be something weighing around 100Kg, possibly fitted with a cooling system.

Not completely agree with the wording since they most often share the same core

 
10kVA 3 phase 50Hz Tx is a little on the small side - but many makers exist - possibly 2000 pounds stirling

Thanks....you mean because the power factor of our loads is not unity?
(out loads are multiple 40w loads [10kw's worth] running off 3ph,6pulse rectifiers)
 

Hi,

something to think (and calculate) about.

You say 98% efficiency. And it´s for lightning in a gallery.
Maybe a not very small galery. And the transformer probalbly is not in the most center of all the lights.

For a galery hall thougt the wiring from transformer to the lights maybe is 40m.
if I take the efficiency of the wiring also to be 98%, then the aluminum bus bars need about 650mm^2 = about a square inch.
...and for two bus bars 40m each it makes a total weight of about 150kg.
Assumed pure DC. ...with something other than DC it becomes worse.
