i am a freshman in rf field.
recently i am studying the amplifier, and i am comfused in what targets we want to get in designing with @DS. we know power gain, noise figure and output power are needed, but my question is other coefficients such as harnomic etc. are needed too?
thank u!

Hi

You can simulate and optimize Noise Figure, S-parameters, toi..... using ADS
It's needed if you design amplifier

Regards

It depends which Amplifier you are designing & Analysing...
1. Power Amplifier(PA)
2. Low Noise Amplifier (LNA)

PA Analsis
Single tone distortion
Multitone distortion
AM-AM, AM-PM
PAE ( power added efficiency )
Gain
Noise Figure
Power Spectrum
TOI, ete

LNA Analysis
Gain
NF
Stability
Sparameters, etc

All you can do analysis or optimization using powerful RF & MW CAD tools
like Microwave Office or ADS

thank u!

now i am designing a LNA.

i have the data sheet of the transistor and the S parameter, but the transistor is not in the compenent library of the @DS.

my question is how to do with @DS in the first step.

to use the S2P compenent and then import the .s2p????
and how to design the match network??also with the S2P compenent???

thanks again!

You can use the s parameter Data Element. In the data element, you can point to the S parameter file. Then you can put a TERM on the input and output. The matching circuit would go between the TERM and the data element. Remember, this is a linear simulation only. You can match and get gain and noise figure but you need the non-linear model of the transistor to do distortion analysis.

thank u!

your advise is very helpful!

but how to simulate the bias network with Data element?

thanks again!

Basically You can't do DC simulation if you only got S-parameters data, you need a non-linear or spice model.

Transistor datasheet will tell you on what DC condition the is abtained. Normally, demo bias network will be also provide. And you can check I-V curve or other graph to build bias circuit.

thank sunn, and all!

you really inspire me in this design.

thank you!
