gbjt in microwave

I have a project where I need to make an RF mixer using AWR Microwind.

The first thing I noticed is that this tool doesn't include in the given libraries the elements that I need.

I have to make a mixer using a BJT transistor. My mixer has to be based on the mixer suggested in the pdf file I uploaded here. So I need to add to my elements library the BJT transistors 2N2221A and 2N3308.

I would appreciate any suggestions as to where I can find the appropriate libraries and how I can add them to the program.

Also, if an experienced user of this program can suggest a quick and easy to use tutorial I would really appreciate it.

Thank you all in advance!

awr library rf

Open using WordPad any of the AWR existing models located in AWR\Library\Models\Nonlinear

For example AWR\Library\Models\Nonlinear\Philips\GBJT\BC337.PRM

Go to 2N2221 datasheet (page 3), pick-up the SPICE data and replace into BC337 open file.

https://www.ortodoxism.ro/datasheets/microsemi/MSC0328A.pdf

Save the new file as 2N2221.PRM (could be in the same folder with BC337.PRM)

Open a new schematic and import the new 2N2221 nonlinear model from Philips folder, and design your mixer. There are plenty of tutorials for AWR software. Just search the net, or this forum.

awr mixer

Thank you very much! You saved me a lot of time!

In my microwave nonlinear library I have only GBJT models with 4 pins.

But the 2n221A transistor has 3 pins. When I try importing this model in microwave using the way suggested I get a 4 pin trandistor. Can I use it? How will I connect the forth pin.

Can someone please send me or upload here a 3 pin model for this library?

Hello clsfox,

Instead of importing as Pspice netlist...
Use the following GBJT elemet on schematic
Elements -> Nonlinear -> BJT -> Gummel-Poon 3-Terminal BJT: GBJT3
and then enter manually all the parameters (carefull about default units used in the parameter page....
*
.MODEL Q2N2221A NPN (
+ IS = 426.3f
+ XTI = 3.0
+ EG = 1.11
+ VAF =250.3
+ BF = 72.14
+ ISE = 48.14p
+ NE = 2.935
+ IKF = 2.935
+ NK = 1.401
+ XTB = 1.5
+ BR = 11.49
+ ISC = 19.9f
+ NC = 1.88
+ IKR = 10.75
+ RC = 0.3567
+ CJC = 11.02p
+ VJC = 0.3869
+ MJC = 0.3292
+ FC = 0.5
+ CJE = 29.31p
+ VJE = 0.9036

+ TR = 16.89n
+ TF = 537.5p
+ ITF = 0.1383
+ XTF = 84.83m
+ VTF=10 )
*

But why can't you use like as shown in below figure...
