GSM frequency question?

In GSM system, Can the uplink and downlink frequency exchange together? Why?

No this cannot take place. In the GSM standard the uplink frequency is lower than the downlink, this is the save the battery of the mobile unit as transmitting at high frequencies consumes higher power.

yes frequency exchange is together but both frequencies are different. tranceiver has the ability to transmit and recieve at the same time by using property of frequency duplexing...

In GSM the transmitting and receiving timeslots are separted by three time slots. So at a given time, the phone is either in uplink mode or downlink mode but not together.

Hi Naveed Alam, I read about the Tx/Rx Time Slot Separation in the book by Rappaport (pg555 GSM Air Interface Specs).

It clearly shows how uplink and downlink time slots are offset by three timeslot duration.
