Maybe looking at this post from Feb 2015 will help you, specifically the last paragraph.
Basically adding delay in the data path will cut into the setup time available (reducing setup slack). You don't want TNS (negative slack) that means you're violating your timing, i.e. you want this to be 0 anything bigger means you have violated timing overall by that much. WNS (worst negative slack) means you violated timing in that path if it's negative, i.e. you want these to stay positive (as in best positive slack).
