Photonic Band Gap (PBG) crystals are made of two different dielectric materials with a periodicity in one, two or three dimensions, which prevent the propagation of the electomagnetic waves (lights) in specified frequency bands. To develop this concept for microwaves and mm-waves, Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) materials or Metalodielectric Photonic Band Gap (MPBG) materials are introduced using metallic elements. Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS) is a simple case of EBG/MPBG, which is a planar single layered structure.
