driving 12v (Vds) p channel mosfet with avr

can we drive p channel mosfet having Vds 12 v
from ttl logic i.e(0-5)
without using level shifter

The P-MOSFET requires a 0 to 12V gate signal to turn on and off with a 12V supply on the source so, as ER stated, you need a level shifter.
 

As said, it may be easiest to use a small (like SOT-23) NPN, or logic -level mosfet in an open drain configuration to control the P-FET gate.

Alternatively you could shop for some form of dedicated high side load switch which can have logic level inputs (and probably bells and whistles like overcurrent/overtemp/overvoltage protection).
