I came across this statement:

"Digital circuits allow volume production without the need for adjustment during construction or use"

what does that mean?

Analog circuits often require trim pots and capacitors to be set as part of the initial construction. Some require these adjustments during operation as well. Many digital circuits will be 'pre-set' and require little or no adjustment. This is of coarse a generalisation, some digital circuits do require adjustment. eg. a digital watch might need a trimming cap to be adjusted for accurate time keeping even though it uses a crystal.
