how to program attiny

yes, I have now sucessfully programmed the ATtiny2313.

The factory provides this chip such that NO EXTERNAL crystal
oscillator is required (an internal clock is used instead). I didn't
know this on the first instance and took me sometime to figure
out what's happening with the clocking. The older brother AT90S2313
was functioning differently as far as clocking is concerned.

I properly modified the fuse bits (CKSEL3,2,1) using PonyProg,
and the chip is now clocked from the external crystal (1 crystal,
2 capacitors, as mentioned in the data sheet).

I am using the chip in a kit which controls 8 relays through a
telephone line (still working on this).

Hi Cplia,
What kind of programmer you use?
Can you explaine precisly setting for fuse bit,
I need to programm attiny2313 at 20MHz with crystal, projects is rgb generator for testing monitors,
regards

I use PonyProg. The circuit I am using is the one that electronicus
mentioned above on this topic.

Since you want to clock your chip with a 20MHz crystal, then you need
to set CKSEL1=1, CKSEL2=1 and CKSEL3=1 (1 means unprogrammed,
as indicated in the data sheet for ATtiny2313, page.26). Fuses, determine the mode
of operation for the chip, e.g. to use internal instead of external clock, etc.
I guess an expert programmer can explain this with a better way.
good luck

My project is consist of 256 characters with ATtiny2313 microcontroller. It uses seven BD139 and 74HC595 as a LED driver and shift register.
I programmed it in C... the code that scrolls the LEDs is there too(above) but i cant display letters, which is my goal. Does someone know something? ill appreciate
