Are asynchronous counters on ATMEGA8, 32 and AT89C2051, AT89S52 possible?

Has anyone worked with asynchronous counters on ATMEGA8, 32 and AT89C2051, AT89S52?

Hi

Please elaborate since any timer can be set to work asynchronous to the outside world

All the best

I am talking about using the timer to set to work asynchronous to the *inside* world.

It should grab the clock pulses from an external signal instead of being clocked from the internal uC clock.
