I need to design an SAR type of ADC. My analog input is a linear curve from temperature sensor. The conversion rate can be very low, it is not a high speed design. I will be designing a 8-bit SAR, anyone has a good architecture to share with me. It has to be a parallel-like architecture. It would be good if it is a resistor ladder architecture. Thanks

8-bit SAR ADC

You do better use capacitor array to achieve it because it save power.

8-bit SAR ADC

Yes, I think capacitor array is good

Re: 8-bit SAR ADC

but for ADC design that is more than 6 bits, it is encouragable to use ladder resistor design. If we were to use array capacitor, mismatch is a big issue for so many capacitors that are needed.

8-bit SAR ADC

For 8-bit resolution, the area doesn't need to be very large. Also it is same for the resistor ladder. But for resistor, we can say the less area, the more power, which is opposite for cap.
