About the LDO thermal protect

Hi all,

I find there is always a temperature spec for thermal of LDO.
But how can I know this value when I design a LDO? Can it be got by simulation?
And what means can improve or protect the LDO thermal characteristic?

depends on the type of LDO that uses reg the 101 as an example is protect thermally.

I don't know which technics you will use.If bipolar is used, you can use its temperature characteristic.I know some circuits use this way.
 

Hi :
You can use ".DC'' function by SPICE.
Thermal protection temp (OTP) is alway under Max Temp(Bonding wire and Die ),or your LDO will de damaged by thermal.
How to decide OTP
1:Die Size
2:package Type (with or without thermal Pad)
3:LDO Power consumption (VIN-VOUT)*IO(MAX)
4:Application Temp
