24c02 eeprom with stm8

I have interfaced eeprom with stm8 controller. Is this eeprom maintain the data always when controller off.? Is there power battery is necessary?
 

I would not think it much of an EEPROM if the data was lost.
Also the first page of the data sheet states that:
Data Retention: 100 Years
