[SOLVED] why these diodes are connected in rev bias?

hi,
Can anybody answer why these diodes are connected in rev bias? here is the link to my question.
(those are to regulate the voltage but how come a simple diode works in reverse bias?)

Reverse biased zener diode acts as voltage regulator.

Maybe you mean the second picture: Just simulate in your brain what happens if the input signal becomes larger as VCC or smaller as GND ;-).

They are reverse biased because you don't want anything
from them under normal operation. They are there so you
survive abnormal overvoltage.
