Hi Friends,

I am using Altium tool for a project. Previously, i had a schematic and created a PCB and placed almost all the components. But later, schematic required a change and i added and removed a few components.

After editing the schematics, i annotated the entire schematics. So all the ref desgs got changed. When i tried to import the new schematic to the PCB, all the previously placed component locations got disturbed and has caused great confusion.

Now, i would like to have the new ref desgs in place of the old ones in the pcb, but the components should not get changed. Only the ref desgs should be replaced but components should remain same.

Is it possible to achieve this or should i do component placing all again from the beginning?

Appreciating any help!
Thanks.

you should have synchronized the component links first before you imported the design changes into the pcb.
The command is under >>Project >> Component links. Altium keeps a unique id for every component. As long as they are still the same it should not be a problem to sync the schematics and pcb.

Hi Loosemoose,

Thanks a lot. I did not do this component linking before importing. Now, i checked the component links and i see that most of the components are mismatched. for eg, R1 in old schematic is R6 in new one. But, in the changes list, it is linking R1:R1 instead of R1:R6 .. Do we have any option to re-link this?

Sincere thanks.

I think you can only do that by manual process.
Do you still have an old copy before you annotated the schematics? This way you could link the components first and then import the changes.
Once happy you can re designate the schematics and then update the pcb.
