PCB is a design discipline in its own right. I have seen the role of PCB design diminiss over the years, in the West, with hardley any new blood coming into it. I have also seen numerous UK facilities get rid of thier PCB designers and employ engineers to do the layout. This does not work in the long run and is not cost effective, and generaly electrical engineers do not make good part time PCB designers. It is eroding a necessary to the ecconamy job skill in the West and the UK especially, which is a shame, and somthing that is already causing the West tio Fall behing Japan, China etc in technology and PCB design technology...
