Hi all,

I want to design a Colpitts Oscillator with the output frequency is 30Mhz, but i am totally new with RF and CMOS Analog. I am reading "The Design of CMOS RF IC" of Thomas Lee Chapter17, but there are many points I dont understand. I have two options
1. With Transistors and other passive elements only.
2. With Transistors combined with a crystal and capacitors

Any suggestion where can I start with, any materials, books, tutorials for me to look at.
I am also using Cadence SpectreRF to do simulation for the circuit.

Tks

Tks Vfone for your help. I already run through that tutorial. But for my project, I just wanna focus only on Colpitts Oscillator topologies
Where can I find some topologies for this kind of oscillator?
I saw in some materials. They mentioned that oscillation frequency and phase noise are two important measures we need to do when design an oscillator?
Is it true? What else do we need to notice?

The best analysis I know of the Colpitts oscillator is in the book 'Introduction to Radio Frequency Design' by Wes Hayward, the subtleties of this circuit are dealt with thoroughly and the math is kept to a reasonable level. Another excellent book on practical oscillator design is 'Oscillator design and computer simulation' by Randy Rhea.
