[SOLVED] Need desperate help for final year project

Hello,
I am a fourth year electronics engineering student and have an idea about my final year project but haven't a clue how to do it, I need some help.
I intended to make an sms based home automation & information system but due to the curriculum of my university and lack of proper interest on my part, I do not know micro controller programming. Have searched on the net, have some vague ideas but that is about it.
I need help with -
1. Please advice a micro controller that would do the job, the beginner's guide to programming it. Also please provide advanced materials which I can stomach after I have gone through the beginner's guide.
2. Also, keeping the indian condition in mind, I do not intend to use smartphones but the ones which can be connected to a pc will have to suffice. I also need help with the system where as soon as an sms arrives, my program fetches it from phone memory, decodes it and writes instructions for the ucontroller and after operation sends a confirmation message. What kind of program development platform should I be looking at and any ideas about the best way to proceed?
3. If there are people kind hearted enough who can provide a good hint at the actual project setup, it would be really helpful

first read any 8051 micro-controller architecture and programming can see lot of material on net Google it.

and in India you can get all kinds of boards nowadays, don't worry.

You can also try microchip PIC. A lot of sample codes on microchip and internet.
