Expedition PCB file coversion

Hi all,

I have few questions related to Mentor Expedition PCB.

1. Whether Expedition PCB evaluation software is available ?

2. I like to convert the expedition PCB layout file to Altium designer file. Which is the best way ?. I like to go with "Expedition PCB to ASCII to Altium designer", Is there any chance of missing data/properties in the file during this conversion ?

3. I have the PADS logic file ? Can I use this file for conversion feasibility instead of expedition PCB file (currently I don't have the expedition PCB file) ? or both have different file format.

Please comment.

As far as I know there is no direct import for Expedition into Altium. However, you could either try a third party interface such as Camcad or you could try to import an ODB++ database. None of the above are a great solution because of the inevitable issues that will arise from database conversion.

The Pads Logic file is the schematic. This I believe you can import as an ascii file into an altium schematic. What is a bit confusing here is that it is very rare that pads logic is used with Expedition. Usually the front end for Expedition will either be; DxDesigner, Design Capture, or Orcad cpature. Way back in the day it would be Design Architect. Are you sure the front end on this design is Pads Logic?

Altium have announced an importer for Expedition PCB fdesign files - see the bottom of the page: **broken link removed**

However they call it a "Labs" feature which usually means it is in Alpha phase and needs some customers to test it and provide Altium's R&D team with feedback. Perhaps this is an opportunity for you?
