Method for designing phase demodulator at 10.7 MHz

Hello everyone

I have to design a phase demodulator at 10.7 MHz. The modulation index is 1.1 radian and the bandwidth of the information signal is 8 kHz.

I am trying to use a technique used in FM demodulation which is to first convert the FM signal to AM signal and then using the diode detector. MY question is would this work for PM demodualtion too by adding an integrator of differentiator.

If anybody knows any other easier method please share. I have to design a hardware of the demodulator.

No, this type of FM demodulator will not work properly as a PM demodulator.

Could u please explain why as a common way of doing PM demodulation is to use FM demodulator and put an integrator after it. The FM demodulator can be of any type as long as it performs its operation.

Most phase detectors require comparing the instantaneous phase received to some reference signal's phase. The reference signal can be generated in the receiver with some sort of narrowband pll circuit.

The problem you have in using an FM detector is....that the frequency of your signal is not changing. So converting the FM of your signal into "am" (assuming you mean some sort of tuned circuit), you will get a constant "AM" signal as the phase is changed.

In some limited data types, you could use a delay line discriminator to detect changes in phase.
