about DC - DC converter

Who can give me a genral description of how to design a high performance DC-DC converter? how to decide the spec?

Thanks

Re: about DC - DC converter

Search the internet for buck converter and boost converter. These two converter topologies are basic converter topologies. If you can understand these topologies it is easy for you to understand other advanced toplogies

Thanks.

Re: about DC - DC converter

Where are you using the DC-DC converter, in a low voltage application or in a high voltage application. Besides, How will you implement the circuit : on a pcb or on wafer.

Thanks

Hi,

Almost all information about dc-dc converters you can find in Unitrode/TI seminars:

Re: about DC - DC converter

8) Designing DC DC converters and power electronics is a tricky affair.
there are hundreds of types and thousands of application areas.

a non isolated converter to power simple circuits is simple to make, but if you want to develope converters for telecom application the converters not only should meet electrical specifications but also EMI/EMC, Environmental specifications etc.. the reliability of the product also comes into picture.

to start with you can read Ebbok by keith billings.(available in MCU)

Re: about DC - DC converter

Hi,

Pls provide some reference for low voltage on-wafer DC-DC converter. I am looking
for a ckt for modulating the supply voltage of CMOS nonlinear PA for obtaining different
output power levels, what would be the most efficient method in terms of power/area
for doing this? The Power Amplifier works at 2.4GHz to deliver power of 100mW.

Thanks,
Saumitra

Re: about DC - DC converter

Dear Saumitra,
On chip level only the active parts can be included. the capacitors and inductors have to be placed outside because of size restrictions.

Chip level integration is possible only if you use switching frequency of some few megahertz. then inductors may be possible to be etched in silicon.
Regards.
