Wiring USB to a PS3 fan?

Am I doing this right?

I have black and red from the USB. But for the PS3 I have tan, grey, and black. I tried tan to red, black to black, but the fan did not spin.

The fan is 12V DC and 2.65A.

Is there anyone that can give me a little guidance with this?
Help appreciated.

No, possible you are going to fry your usb port.

Because the usb power is 5V and max current is 500mA

A 12v fan will run slowly in 5V supply but consumes more than the limits

Hmm,

Is there anyway I could easily hardwire this then? Maybe a safe way to plug it into an outlet?

I was planning on mounting the fan on my computer box for extra air flow.
