PCB from hfss

Hi,

I have a design under hfss and I would like to have a PCB (layout), I would like to export it to Gerber format but I don't find this format in hfss can anyone help me please???

Thank you,

Re: PCB from hfss

yes, it's possible to create gerber data out of hfss. it's kind of tricky, but possible. how many layers is your pcb?

PCB from hfss

Only the substrate layer and in the top face the patch, in the bottom face the ground plane

you will not reply, you don't have any solution please?

Re: PCB from hfss

Hfss can export a DXF file. Once you have that, you need a CAM editor, or other PCB software that can import the DXF and export the Gerber files.

Without knowing what sofware you have at your disposal, it's difficult to give detailed directions.

If you can get the dxf file, and you can't find software at your location to convert it to Gerber, I'd be willing to give you a hand. Just zip or rar your file and PM it to me. I'll take a look, and get Gerbers back to you within a day or so.

Once you have the Gerbers, you can view them with any of several free Gerber viewers to confirm they are what you want/need.

Re: PCB from hfss

This is my file DXF

Re: PCB from hfss

I'm going to need some desription of what your patch looks like.

When I import your DXF, all I see for both layers is the single line outline show in the attached picture. The dimensions are 3.9370mm x 3.5433mm.

You're going to have to show me a picture of the finished object, or describe it so I can fill in the outlines appropriately from your DXF files. There's too little information in the DXF files you provided to make a set of Gerbers to manufacture a patch.

Re: PCB from hfss

I obtain also the same result and that is my problem, if you want I can send you the hfss project may be there is some problems in the conversion to DXF file???

Thank you for your help,

Re: PCB from hfss

As soon as I get a chance, I'll take a look at your original file. I think the DXF outline is probably correct, but without more info I can't figure out what the extra rectangle at the bottom is supposed to be.

ok thank you for your help just a Patch in the top and with a reduced ground plane, I wait for your reply,

Have Good Time,

I haven't forgotten you. The computer I had HFSS on crashed, and I need to replace the hard drive before I can work with your files. If someone else wants to jump in and help him out feel free. Otherwise it's going to be a couple of weeks before I can get to it.

Since we already have Gerber files, if you can say which areas in the outline are flooded with copper, I can use a CAM editor and flood those areas without having to view the file first in HFSS. That will let you get on with your project without having to wait.

Ok thank you for your help, no problem I wait and if you will have a solution don't forget to write to me.

Have nice day,

Hi,

You are always occupied???? Please do you have a solution? I need your helps if you can.

Thank you,

Re: PCB from hfss

Your Gerber files are attached. I suggest you get a free Gerber viewer such as Pentalogix, and check them - **broken link removed** .

In reviewing your HFSS files, I can't see any physical difference between the two files you posted (Patch_carre_typon0.hfss, and Patch_carre_typon1.hfss), so I made only one set of Gerber files.

The problem you were having with the DXF output stems from the translation from a 3D model to a 2D DXF drawing. You have to set Z=0 for all objects in order for them to show up in the DXF file. The other issue is the scale -- HFSS outputs inches for the DXF, regardless of what you are using for your model.

Just as an oral check of what your model looks like - it's a 60x60mm patch on the top of a 1.6mm FR4 board, with a 2.1x30mm trace from the edge of the board to the patch. There is a 50x26 patch of GND copper on the bottom side of the board at the edge. The copper weight is 1oz (35um) all layers. I included a PDF showing the composite of the 3 Gerber layers (top, bottom, and dimensions/outline).

To answer the rude question you posted above - I have a job, I have a family, I have medical problems, and I had a badly damaged computer I had to rebuild before I did anything with HFSS. Your needs are less important to me than all of the above. If you're rude to me again, I'll tell you to pack sand the next time you need help. I kept you informed of the delays.

PCB from hfss

Hi House_cat,
I'm so sorry for the last time I'm would not be rude I'm sorry another time, please I searched in the forum how can I export from hfss to gerber viewer, but my problem still with the layout format. I get the layout but only the outline (circumference) I would like to know how can I fill this empty surface??

Thank you,

Best regards,

Re: PCB from hfss

You have to flatten the HFSS 3D objects by setting their heights to zero, then export the DXF file to show the 2D outlines of the surfaces. You then import the DXF into a Gerber Edtior or a PCB Layout program, and use the outlines to pour solid copper polygons. Once you have that, you export to Gerber files from the Gerber or PCB Editor.

Re: PCB from hfss

hi,
its an old thread but was very informative. if house_cat you are still using this forum can you guide me a bot about it, i have antenna on a substare of thickness0.5mm , and then i have designed a balun to connect it now i want to send it for fabrication but when i make gerber file of antenna with subtrate i found only antenna and substrate is missing in gerber file, while for balun when i convert it into gerber and open it i found nothing in it else a blank layout,
now what i understand from your advice is i should make substrate hight equal to 0 and then export it???
i have export it into gerber file by firstly expoting it into 3 d sat format to cst and then from cst to gerber fomat. if you can guide me i will be obliged.
