Yes India is price sensitive..... BUT!!!
SIMcom is known to have serious quality and reliability issues.
I would not use them unless it is some student project!

Can you elaborate?

I've used thousands of SIMCom modules and find that their quality is no worse than any other manufacturer. I've also used Motorola, Telit, and Benq. As with all GSM modules you must know what you are doing and design your circuitry to support the demands of these devices. The biggest problem I see with all modules is that most engineers don't understand the power needs of these devices and provide inadequate power supplies.

Hey GSM Man.... - Oops, actually I think you outrank me on this one... :)
What I commented was relaying what I heard from others in the market but not my personal experience. Regarding modules, I know about Motorola (G24) and Telit but not about Benq (interesting). Do you know about iWOW? I have heard good things about them.

Since you mentioned, can you elaborate on the power requirements you spoke of? Actually I am re-designing my power section (running 3.3v and 5v rails) to shift from good old 2575 and LDO to a SMT based design with adequate automotive protection (wide input range, transient protection, etc.). I have posted my circuit here. By the way, I was looking at the L5970, do you know it?

Thanks for your inputs and suggestions!

The most important thing to keep in mind is that, depending on the module and frequency, these radios can draw 2A or more when transmitting. This is a "burst" of current that only last a few millisconds, but without the proper power supply the voltage can dip low enough to reset or power-off the radio. I've seen many cases where the radios worked fine when operating in the 1900MHz band but failed when working in the 850 band. This is because the power outuput (and therefore the current draw) can be twice as high in the 850 band as in the 1900 band.

There are several things you need to keep in mind:
- Your voltage regulator must have good load regulation and be able to supply the high current while maintaining the required voltage.
- Make sure your ground and power traces are adequate to prevent additional voltage drop or noise generation. Use of ground and power planes is recommended.
- Set the nominal output voltage of your regulator near the high-end of the radio's Vcc limit (for the SIMCom modules I typically use 4.2V for the Vbat). This will provide some overhead so that voltage drops are not as likely to go below the radio's lower Vcc limit. This may require level-shifters between your processor & the radio.
- Provide capacitors as close as posible to the radio's power pins. Check the manufacturer's recommendations. Most recommend a 100uF, or larger, low ESR cap in parallel with a .01 - .1uF ceramic.

Code:
Most recommend a 100uF, or larger, low ESR cap in parallel with a .01 - .1uF ceramic.

after connect 100uf why low ESR cap in parallel with a .01 - .1uF ceramic are required

For the current market, SIMCOM is the much cheaper one of GSM/GPRS module. Other like Cinterion and Telit is rather expensive than Simcom.

You can try to import from other country to compare with the price in India.

About the gps module and wireless module, i can help everyone on the price in China.

To my knowledge, iWOW is only a few $ more than SIMCOM and better quality.
